Kelly Hartog

.

Golden Retriever mother.
Kidney transplant recipient March 29, 2022.
Fueled by endless cups of tea.

My name is Kelly Hartog and I’m a left-brain and a right-brain writer.

I’m a journalist, editor, reporter, fiction writer, short story writer, attempting to live the writing dream in sunny California. I’m also a trained actress, and a theatre director and I’ve lived in four countries (England, Australia, Israel, and America) and have an accent with an identity crisis.

I work as a writer and editor for newspapers, magazines and online publications around the globe. I’ve covered news, politics, religion, arts, entertainment et al for The Jerusalem Post in Israel where I lived for 11 years; survived an Al Qaeda suicide bombing attack in Kenya.

Until August 30, 2010, I lived with my adorable Golden Retriever, Bridget. She passed away at the age of 13 and a half, from cancer. I’d had her from when she was seven weeks old.

My current Golden Retriever, whom I got at 8 weeks old in January 2011 is named Bronte, after author Charlotte Bronte (NOT Emily). She has her own blog here – Bronte’s Blog.

I also had bunion surgery in 2011 and chronicled my experiences for others undergoing the process at a separate blog you can read here, entitled: Not Another Bunion Surgery Blog.

Need help with your manuscript?

Aside from being a long-term newspaper editor (for over 20 years), I also currently work as a developmental editor/book coach at Author Accelerator, helping writers see their books come to fruition.

For Writers

Writing is not only a solitary activity, it can also be lonely at times. While no one can put the words on the page but you, it really does help to surround yourself with other writers who are supportive and will be there to help you on those days when you just can’t stare at the page anymore, or when you want to tear up your manuscript, or have decided that you can’t write!

Me, Margaritas and burning feet

I love Margaritas. Alas, they don\'t love me.WordRidden / Foter / CC BYI have a confession to make. Nay, make that two confessions: 1. I love Margaritas 2. I am the world's cheapest drunk. I have no idea what got in to me today, but we decided this afternoon to go out...

Finally meeting a fellow author… in person!

Finally meeting a fellow author… in person!

As you know, I've waxed lyrical, poetical and every other "al" you can think of about the Women's Fiction Writers Association, and I can't wait for our retreat in New Mexico at the end of September. But one of the greatest things about our little (well now over 600...
